Weekend Read 15 April 2023

Last weekend I wrote that we would begin to throw the focus on the products that would help support seasonal changes.  We are going quite early on Hay Fever and although we are not yet in peak season, it is good to be prepared ahead of time and so that is what we are going to do.  There are no big launches across this sector and although anything can happen, we are staying with the tried and tested products which we have been recommending for several years to help lessen the symptoms of Hay Fever, which include a runny nose, sneezing, itchy eyes and watery eyes.

So let’s run through those products and I will start with two of our bestselling supplements in this genre, the first being Aller-DMG.  Aller-DMG is the supplement which has been specifically formulated to help relieve Hay Fever, respiratory and nasal discomfort.  It also supports skin irritation, but staying with Hay Fever, each nutrient has targeted beneficial effects that can help regulate histamine levels and improve respiratory function.  Helping to modulate the immune system, it helps reduce histamine release and it also helps alleviate symptoms associated with all allergies and asthma.  So to kick-start the season, I am dropping the price of Aller-DMG from £28 to £25.
Aller-DMG by Davinci Laboratories Of Vermont £25 for 60 Tablets (offer ends at midnight BST, Sunday 16 April)

The other bestselling supplement in this genre is Triple Allergy Defense, which can either be used as an adjunct to Aller-DMG or as a stand-alone solution.  Although not quite as famous as Triple Flu Defense, which comes from the same stable, Triple Allergy Defense delivers year-round allergy relief and as such it provides multi-symptom relief from sneezing, runny nose, nasal and sinus congestion, itchy and watery eyes, headache and fatigue.  The important thing to say here is that these wondrous drops, and they are wondrous, will not make you feel drowsy and Shabir wishes that he had formulated them, but he didn’t.  Dr Nenninger did.  Respect.
Triple Allergy Defense by Dr Nenninger £27 for 55 ml

Staying with Hay Fever, there are many eye drops available which can be used as a topical solution to help support dry, tired and irritated eyes and in this instance Shabir recommends A. Vogel's Eye Drops which contain Eyebright (Euphrasia officinalis).  These eye drops are suitable for use if you wear contact lenses as there can be an issue with dust and pollen getting trapped beneath the surface of the lens.  As an aside, you can use these drops to help lubricate the eyes if you spend long hours in front of a computer screen.  And to differentiate, if you have an eye infection, such as conjunctivitis, please use MSM + Silver Topical Solution, which I wrote about last weekend.
Eye Drops by A. Vogel £11.99 for 10 ml; MSM + Silver Topical Solution by Good Health Naturally £14.95 for 30 ml

One more product to write about in the Hay Fever section and that product is The Cisca Saltpipe, a patented product which addresses breathing difficulties, so often associated with Hay Fever.  The history is quite interesting in that the benefits of salt came to the fore in the 1940s when abandoned salt mines were used as bomb shelters.  Those who sought safety in salt mines noticed an improvement in respiratory function, particularly easing the shortness of breath.  Based on those findings, The Cisca Saltpipe is loaded with salt from the Transylvanian Praid Salt Mine and its salty microclimate helps to calm the cells of the respiratory system.

Inducing a natural self-cleansing mechanism, The Cisca Saltpipe harnesses the natural healing of salt cave therapy and based on daily usage, the crystal salt within this ceramic device will last approximately five years without requiring refills.  It is comfortable and easy to use and although there are many saltpipes available on the market, many of those are plastic and to the best of my knowledge, this is the only saltpipe which features a safety valve and a CE medical registration.  And that matters.  Anyway, in conclusion, I will refer you to Shabir’s article on Hay Fever, which I have linked below.

Right, let’s move on and some time last Saturday I realised that I had forgotten to declare the product of the month for March.  Never mind that we are now halfway through April, it went straight out of my head and having written about Limitless Plus last weekend, perhaps I need to add in that supplement for sharper brain function.  Of course I don’t take every supplement that I write about, so I may need to adjust that in this direction.  Anyway, better late than never for the declaration, and of course this all comes with a twist and there is, and will also be, a happy ending across all of this.

The product of the month would have been NMN had it not been for the controversy in America regarding this nutrient.  I wrote extensively about those issues and the stance of the FDA following the lobbying by a pharmaceutical company to get NMN taken off the market, which had nothing whatsoever to do with the safety of the product.  Be that as it may, I will not let this go and following extensive research, I will have news across this within the next three months, primarily because that news will demonstrate the importance of refusing to accept the status quo, as it currently stands.  This is going to be interesting.  Rock and roll.

So, if not NMN, I have to revert to another product and because I’m torn between two products, I will do both.  The first product will please rather a lot of you and it’s Hyaluronic Acid Capsules High Strength, because they have a high therapeutic strength and because they really do make a difference to so many of us.  Many, many years ago I wrote that I believed HA to be one of the most crucial anti-ageing supplements and I still stand by that statement.  In order to honour HA, and your dedication to this remarkable nutrient, I am dropping the price of HA from £35 to £30 across the weekend.  Thus the happy ending.

And of course it was an exceptionally happy ending for Organic Matcha Powder after its appearance on Dragons’ Den where Peter Jones and Steven Bartlett invested in the brand.  Within days we had Organic Matcha Powder on our site and I would like to thank everybody at PerfecTed for their amazing support and kindness, which is so rare in this industry.  For that alone I would have declared them as product of the month, but a product also has to demonstrate efficacy and Organic Matcha Powder certainly does that.  Long may it reign.  Even if there is a wait list, which will be rectified within the next two weeks, all things being equal.  Amen.

Just to be neat, I started this section by writing about Limitless Plus, so if you missed what I said about it, then I will refer you to last Saturday’s Weekend Read here and because I’ve just done that, I have adjusted the pricing structure on Limitless Plus to cover this weekend too.
VH Editorial: Nootropics For Sharper Brain Function; Limitless Plus £29 for 60 Capsules (offer ends at midnight BST, Sunday 16 April)

With all of that said, let’s move into new product territory and it’s another new product from DIRTEA.  Combining three research-based mushrooms, Mushroom Cacao Super Blend is a healthy hot (or cold) chocolate which is loaded with antioxidants and vitamins.  Those three mushrooms are Tremella, known as the beauty mushroom because it supports skin health, Reishi which helps reduce stress and Turkey Tail which helps to support the immune system.  Blended with raw organic Cacao, it also includes Moringa, a powerful superfood.  Functional mushrooms at their best, I am offering an introductory price on Mushroom Cacao Super Blend of £45 from £49.99.  For the interim.

It has been a while since I last wrote about Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV), which has considerable health and beauty benefits as Shabir outlines in his article linked below.  So as I leave the finer details to Shabir, I will just say that Apple Cider Vinegar is probably one of the most chronicled remedies throughout the ages.  It can help restore normal acid levels in the digestive system, helping to alleviate reflux and heartburn, it helps protect the cells of the body and preliminary studies have indicated that ACV can have a positive influence on maintaining healthy cholesterol levels.

Additionally Pectin, found in ACV, is a soluble fibre which has been studied extensively for its ability to reduce high cholesterol significantly.  And then there are the beauty benefits, which include adding a couple of teaspoons to your bath to help draw out toxins and rinsing your hair with ACV which can help eliminate the build-up of styling products, if you use them.  Two ACV products to recommend here, Organic Apple Cider Vinegar because it contains the ‘mother’ substance from organic apples and for those who dislike the taste of ACV,  sugar-free Apple Cider Gummies, containing a rare apple cider quality, which is naturally rich in procyanidin B-2.
VH Editorial: The Health And Beauty Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar; Organic Apple Cider Vinegar by Higher Nature £8.40 for 500 ml (drops from £11.95); Sugar-Free Apple Cider Gummies by New Nordic £15 for 60 Gummies (drops from £17.95)

Onwards, and I just want to take a moment to talk about supply and demand issues by way of an update on a few products.  Lysine Lip Balm has been out of stock for several weeks, but it is now back for which I am grateful because it is our bestselling lip balm.  Containing two key ingredients, Lysine and Monolaurin, both are beneficial when applied topically to cold sores and both have been the subject of numerous studies demonstrating their efficacy.  The reason it was out of stock was because it has gone through packaging changes, but the product itself hasn’t changed, which is what really matters here.
Lysine Lip Balm by Good Health Naturally £5.95 for 5 grams

We may be approaching the Hay Fever season, but we are also approaching the moth season and having sent out an information email about this, it will probably not surprise you that both of the KateMoth products went out of stock.  The news here is that we now have stock of the KateMoth Moth Deterrent Sachets, but the KateMoth Moth Deterrent Drawer Liners remain out of stock.  Hopefully they will be back soon and although I don’t have a definitive date for their return, I am linking the product below as you may wish to add your name to the wait list. As soon as they are back in stock, we will notify you.
KateMoth Moth Deterrent by Roadscents £11; KateMoth Moth Deterrent Drawer Liners by Roadscents £18 for Six Drawer Liners

And whoosh, the demand for Swoosh really surprised me after I wrote about these scientifically formulated stain removal wipes last Saturday.  I think these are really clever, so clever that they temporarily went of stock. Being Easter weekend, there was nothing I could do about it, but they are now back in stock together with deCrease Travel Iron Free.  I suppose that’s the downside to sending out a newsletter when nobody else is working, but I’ll take that.  It all comes right in the end.  Whenever and wherever the end is.
Swoosh Instant Stain Removal Wipes (Fragrance Free) £8.50 for Ten Wipes (do not use on silk); deCrease Travel Iron Free £9.99 for 250 ml (do not use on silk)

Having done the updates, a beauty treat.  Derma E’s Advanced Peptides & Collagen Moisturizer is enriched with anti-ageing antioxidants such as Vitamin C and Green Tea, which help to leave skin intensely hydrated.  It helps smooth and soften the skin with two further ingredients, Panthenol and Pycnogenol, the latter of which has been included in so many of Derma E’s formulations, including the very first formulation we launched, Astaxanthin & Pycnogenol.  That was then and this is now, so in the now I am dropping the price of Advanced Peptides & Collagen Moisturizer from £35 to £25.  Whilst stock lasts.
Advanced Peptides & Collagen Moisturizer by Derma E £25 for 56 grams

Another treat and this time it is from Soapsmith, a brand which I have respected since its inception. So, here we go and it’s all about Brick Lane Rinse Free Handwash which kills 99.99% of bacteria, whilst nourishing and protecting your hands.  Inspired by Brick Lane’s aromatic and vibrant mix of oriental spices, it is fragranced with notes of Amber, Pepper and Sandalwood.  With no water required, this is a product gem, most especially because I am offering an introductory price on Brick Lane Rinse Free Handwash of £12 from £20 whilst stock lasts.  And that may not be for long.
Brick Lane Rinse Free Handwash by Soapsmith £12 for 300 ml

I have often written about Temple Spa’s Breath of Life Aromatherapy Inhalation Essence, essentially because Shabir and I really do love this product.  It could be described as a breath of aromatic fresh air in a bottle and having antibacterial and anti-viral benefits it really does help to clear up sinuses and ease breathing if you are suffering from a cold and of course it can also be used to help clear the symptoms of Hay Fever.  Shabir gets Hay Fever, I don’t, but irrespective of that if you buy any Temple Spa product across the weekend, we will automatically include Breath of Life as a gift, which is worth £12. This is a limited edition offer and there is only one gift per customer.  Breath of Life can also be bought as a stand-alone product.  Two options here.
Temple Spa Products; Breath of Life Aromatherapy Inhalation Essence by Temple Spa £12 for 10 ml

And a final fling, because I like doing final flings, if you buy any Ameliorate products with a value of £15 or above, we will automatically send you their bestselling product as a gift.  That product is of course Transforming Body Lotion, so we will include the travel size Transforming Body Lotion (100 ml), which is worth £15, with every qualifying order placed, but in order to be equitable, as ever, there is only one gift per customer.  Whilst stocks last.
Ameliorate Products

Into the Saturday only treat, and with every order placed for £30 and above, we will automatically include Super Shower Power Body Cleanser (50 ml)* by Neom. I have linked the product details below so you can read all about it.  And this is just one of the recent new products launched by Neom.  If you want to know the current bestselling product, it is their Wellbeing Pod Mini Diffuser, which is wonderful.
Super Shower Power Body Cleanser by Neom Organics; Wellbeing Pod Mini Diffuser by Neom Organics £55

The end bit.  After writing about the Beauty Bible Awards last weekend, I had lunch with Sarah and Jo on Wednesday.  It was in celebration of those awards, well that was our excuse, but it was also in celebration of each of our birthdays, albeit they are somewhat apart.  Yet over and above all of that, we celebrated the closeness we have shared over the decades and the comfort of that friendship.  And there is such a comfort because we have never changed and our values have never changed, even if the world has changed around all of us.

When we were looking after the health and wellbeing of the Mail on Sunday YOU magazine readers, which we did for the longest time, we always knew that we were there to serve our readers with unbiased advice and product recommendations.  And perhaps it is in our blood, but we knew no other way and to this day we know no other way.  So this song, primarily the title of the song, because we believe in living in the real word and in the real world we recognise the importance of truth, integrity and compassionate understanding in order to be.  Without compromise.
