What are Liposomes?
Liposome Encapsulation Technology (LET) is not a new science; they are a type of nanotechnology that has been safely and effectively used to improve the delivery of nutrients, and drugs for more than 30 years.
Liposomes encapsulate nutrients into a sphere like bubble which protects nutrients against the gut's harsh digestive processes, which helps to increase absorption.
Liposomes are made from phosphatidylcholine (PT), derived from natural Sunflower Lecithin. The Liposome membrane structure is made with the same PT material that forms our body's internal cell walls. The physiological similarity enables the body to recognise and rapidly absorb them into the plasma (blood).
The body then transports the Liposomes around the body, target-delivering the nutrients into our cells.
How much Vitamin D3 do I need, and how much is too much?
The UK recommends (mainly for bone health) a daily intake of 10 μg/mcg** (equivalent to 400IU) Vitamin D to prevent deficiency in most adults, whereas the EU NRV*** is just 5 μg/mcg** (200IU).
More recently, there have been various studies, in relation to immunity, using higher doses, in the few 1000 IU's of Vitamin D. Whatever you decide to take, please do not exceed product recommended dose and stay within government advisory safe upper daily limit guidelines, which for the UK & EU are set at:
- Adults & Children, over the age of 11 yrs – 100mcg (4000IU’s)
- Children over 12 months & up to 11 yrs - 50mcg (2000IU’s)
- Infants under 12 months old – 25mcg (1000IU’s)
How much Vitamin K2 do I need, and how much is too much?
There are two types of Vitamin K found in our diet: Vitamin K1 (phylloquinone) and K2 (menaquinone). Both are important for blood clotting; however, K2 (in particular MK-7) also supports the body’s absorption of calcium.
D3 and K2 when combined is thought to work to a greater effect when compared to each vitamin taken individually. According to UK guidelines (EU is not too dissimilar), the daily recommended Vitamin K Intake is as follows:
- Birth - 6 months – 2 mcg’s
- 7 - 12 months – 2.5 mcg’s
- 1 - 3 years – 30 mcg’s
- 4 - 8 years - 55 mcg’s
- 9 - 13 years – 60 mcg’s
- 14 - 18 years – 75 mcg’s
- Adult men (19 and over) – 120 mcg’s
- Adult women (19 and over) – 90 mcg’s
- Pregnant or breastfeeding teens – 75 mcg’s
- Pregnant or breastfeeding women – 90 mcg’s
A safe upper limit for Vitamin K is 1 mg (equivalent to 1000mcg)*. *The information provided here is for general guidance only. Please check online for the most up to date information.
