What is mastic gum?
Mastic gum is the resin derived from the evergreen shrub, Pistacia lentiscus, which is naturally antiseptic and has been shown to inhibit or eradicate H. pylori as well as helping a number of gastrointestinal concerns.
What is H. pylori?
Very few organisms can live in the harsh acidic environment of the stomach and duodenum. Helicobacter pylori. H.pylori, is a helicoidal type of bacteria which burrows like a corkscrew into the lining of the stomach, and survives by secreting an alkalising enzyme, urease, which neutralises stomach acid. H.pylori is now recognised at the cause of peptic ulcers.
Does mastic gum heal the gut?
