Suitable for Vegetarians

Lepicol Original Formula Powder is used for healthy bowels.  Fibre is a key part of our dietary intake to ensure we maintain a healthy bowel. Not eating enough fibre can lead to digestive problems such as constipation and other chronic digestive disorders.

What is Lepicol used for?
Lepicol Powder is a completely natural product formulated to regulate the bowels in a gentle, natural way. It contains three ingredients that are not absorbed by the body making Lepicol suitable for regular, everyday use. Lepicol is suitable for those with both sluggish and sensitive bowels and is ideal for those suffering from occasional constipation.  Research indicates that soluble fibre such as fructo-oligosaccharides may play a key role in fat loss particularly visceral fat.

Directions: As a food supplement, take Lepicol at least 30 minutes before a meal. Shake before use.

  • Adults: Take 1-2 heaped teaspoons (2.5 - 5g) mixed with water or juice once or twice daily and consume immediately. This should then be followed by a further glass of water. We recommend starting with a low dose and building up gradually to suit the individual.
  • Children: Half the adult dose with parental supervision. Parents should seek the guidance of a medical practitioner before giving Lepicol to children under 11 years.

Lepicol is suitable for use during pregnancy, but we would always suggest consulting your doctor or healthcare practitioner before taking any food supplement.

Taking Lepicol without water can cause choking. Always aim to consume a 250ml glass of liquid with every heaped teaspoon. Please consult your doctor before taking Lepicol if you have recently had intestinal surgery or you have an intestinal obstruction. If at any time you experience discomfort after taking Lepicol, reduce dosage or stop taking and seek medical advice.  If you are taking any medications or have any medical conditions please consult your doctor before taking any food supplement.  For allergens please see ingredients list in bold. Contains soya and milk, used in the fermentation process. Content of milk is at a level that would not affect lactose intolerant sufferers. May contain traces of mustard and sesame. Store out of the reach of young children. Do not exceed the recommended daily intake. Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a varied diet.

Can I take too much Fibre?
Different types of high fibre foods in the diet can have a synergistic effect and can complement the effects of the psyllium husks in Lepicol. It is good to get into the habit of taking different sources of fibre - for instance, most fruits and vegetables are a good fibre source. When increasing fibre in your diet or through supplements, it’s advisable to do this gradually, as sudden large increases can aggravate initially digestive issues in some.

Can I take Lepicol if I'm pregnant?
Lepicol can be taken by pregnant and breastfeeding women. However, we would always suggest that you seek advice from your doctor or health care practitioner on all aspects of nutrition whilst pregnant.

Can I take Lepicol If I'm on other medication?
Lepicol is a natural fibre supplement product that can be taken with other medications. There are no known contraindications for the use of Lepicol. However, we do recommend they be taken 2 hours apart and if you are taking any medications or have any medical conditions please consult your doctor before taking any food supplement.

What do I do if I experience any discomfort whilst taking Lepicol?
Some people may experience discomfort when they first start taking Lepicol. In this situation, the dose should be reduced until the discomfort subsides. If the discomfort continues then seek medical advice.

I suffer from diarrhoea & constipation, will Lepicol help in both situations?
Due to the nature of the psyllium husks within Lepicol, it is able to absorb water and bulk stools during diarrhoea episodes, whilst creating a soft gel and stimulating peristalsis which aids in the smooth passage of the stool during constipation episodes. Lepicol psyllium husks are therefore able to help normalise bowel movements from both extremes.

Is Lepicol safe for children to take?
Lepicol is a natural product and is therefore safe to take. However, the key thing is to ensure the consumption of enough fluids during and after taking Lepicol - in young children this will need adult supervision. As a nutritional company we would always recommend to consult your doctor on supplements given to children under 11.  If you are taking any medications or have any medical conditions please consult your doctor before taking any food supplement.

How long should I take Lepicol for?
Lepicol is designed to be taken long term however, some people may use Lepicol at key times in their life e.g stressful periods or when travelling abroad.

When should I take Lepicol?
We recommend taking Lepicol at least 30 minutes before a meal. Take Lepicol Plus+ 10 minutes before a meal. Shake before use. The volume of water we recommended drinking with Lepicol could increase fullness so it is not recommended to take alongside a meal. This is a guide and for some people the timing may vary to fit into their daily routine. Lepicol can therefore, be taken any time of day away from food.

How quickly will Lepicol have an effect?
Lepicol is a natural product and the improvement seen will vary between each individual. This can range from a few days to a month.  If you have been using laxatives every day you may want to cut down slowly while you introduce the Lepicol so that your body can get used to more natural bowel movements.

How much water should I drink with Lepicol?
Always consume 200-250ml of liquid with every heaped teaspoon of Lepicol. Keeping well hydrated throughout the day is important in constipation and diarrhoea and for general health. Most people should aim to drink around 2 litres of water a day.

Is Lepicol suitable for Vegans and Vegetarians?
Lepicol powder is suitable for vegetarians and approved by the Vegetarian Society.  The whole psyllium husk  powder is suitable for vegans.

Does Lepicol contain gluten dairy, soya or GMOs?
Each of our specific probiotic strains need various nutrition sources to aid in their growth in culture.  Cow's milk and soya are used in the fermentation (manufacturing) process, although it goes through a filtration process a number of times, and the cryoprotectant coating applied to our strains before freeze drying to enhance stability.  On testing the final Lepicol, small traces of casein have been detected so would not be suitable for those with a severe milk allergy (to milk proteins).   Tests have also shown that many of our strains produce lactase, the enzyme deficient in lactose intolerant sufferers necessary to breakdown lactose (the milk sugar).  Our products are therefore suitable for those with a lactose intolerance.  On last testing soya was below the lower limit of detection. Lepicol and our whole psyllium husk products are a gluten free. The fermentation mix used to culture the protease in Lepicol Plus contains wheat/wheat derivatives. Therefore, Lepicol Plus may not be suitable for coeliac sufferers.  Only non-GM ingredients are used.

What is the difference between the capsules and the powder?
Lepicol is sold in both powder and capsules as alternative forms of administration, dependent on the individual's preference.  For every tsp of the powder we recommend 4 capsules.   Most people therefore, find the powder easier to take on a daily basis but the capsules can be useful when travelling.
