Vitamin B12 is known as the red vitamin since the body uses it to make and regenerate red blood cells. This is the only vitamin that also contains essential mineral elements. Absorption through the stomach is poor, but can be improved when it is combined with calcium. It increases energy levels and improves concentration, memory and balance, making it amongst the nutrients that are helpful in managing conditions such as ADHS, ADD, dyslexia and dyspraxia. It relieves irritability and helps the body use folic acid.
Small studies indicate a link between vitamin B12 deficiency and tinnitus and this may be valid since vitamin B12 plays a role in the health of the nervous system.
Signs of vitamin B12 deficiency: Pernicious anaemia, irritability, poor co-ordination, chronic fatigue, constipation, headaches, including migraines, moodiness.
