Turmeric

Turmeric is a culinary spice with a long history of medicinal use in Indian medicine for treating infections and various other ailments. Turmeric powder is derived from the rhizomes, undergound stems, of Curcuma longa, a member of the ginger family.

The main active compound found in turmeric is curcumin which is a powerful antioxidant and helps fight free radicals, protects the liver against toxins, inhibitsplatelet aggregations and enhances circulation.

Turmeric also helps to lower cholesterol and as an antioxidant it helps to improve blood-vessel health. The active ingredient in turmeric, curcumin, has antiobiotic and anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric is beneficial for all arthritic conditions. Because turmeric is not absorbed efficiently, we recommend curcumin supplements such as Super Bio-Curcumin capsules by Life Extension.

Caution: Extended use of turmeric supplements can result in stomach distress. Not recommended for persons with biliary tract obstruction.
