Insect bites and stings can be itchy, red and uncomfortable. Mosquitoes, wasps, bees and hornets are just some of the common insects that can leave your skin usually with a red lump which may be painful.
How to treat an insect bite
Natural insect bite treatment usually involves the use of creams or sprays that help to reduce the itching, swelling, redness and discomfort until the skin heals up.
Wash the affected area with soap and water.
Try and remove a bee sting if it is stuck in the skin or use tweezers to remove the sting or even a tick.
If the area is hot and swollen, use a cold compress or an ice pack.
Apply the insect bite cream or ointment to reduce swelling.
Avoid scratching the area to prevent infection.
It is not common for an insect bite to cause serious problems but if you have a severe allergic reaction causing breathlessness and/or a swollen face, then seek medical assistance immediately.
