Lamberts® Vitamin D tablets each provide 400iu of vitamin D3 at a strength that is being recommended by the Department of Health.
Recent research on vitamin D3 adds weight to the argument that we should all watch our vitamin D intake. As many as 60% of the UK population is vitamin D deficient and low levels have been linked to serious health problems in later life.
Vitamin D in supplements is essential for healthy bones, as well as teeth, and is also thought to be important for a healthy immune system.
Our bodies obtain vitamin D from two sources, our diet and from the action of sunlight on our skin which drives the natural production within the body. Vitamin D is increasingly in the news as more and more research highlights the importance of this nutrient. Lamberts® also produces vitamin D 1000iu (25µg) tablets that are often recommended to anyone who is known to be deficient in vitamin D.
There are several factors that will influence your body’s ability to synthesise vitamin D, including being exposed to less sunlight, such as during the winter months (Oct-Mar) in the UK or wearing clothes that cover more of your skin in the summer months, having darker skin, and being over 65.
Not many foods contain natural vitamin D, that’s why some foods get fortified with it. Good food sources of vitamin D include: sardines, egg yolk, salmon, shrimp, fortified milks, fortified yoghurts, fortified cereal, and fortified orange juice.
