Mosi-Guard Natural Insect Repellent is a DEET-free insect repellent spray said to be one of the most widely used natural insect repellents. Mosi-guard® Lemon Eucalyptus is an effective mosquito repellent, midge repellent and general insect repellent that helps keep biting insects and ticks at bay. Made with Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus sourced directly from the Eucalyptus Citriodora tree, it’s a DEET-free alternative to synthetic insect repellents and scientifically proven to be as effective.
Mosi-Guard contains the active ingredient Citriodiol, a naturally occurring extract of lemon eucalyptus oil distilled from the eucalyptus citriodora tree (corymbia citriodora), which is a renewable resource. Leading authorities worldwide now recognise Citriodiol's first-rate efficacy, making it the only plant-based repellent with this level of accreditation.

Can I use Mosi-Guard® abroad?
Mosi-Guard® is a regulated and proven plant-based insect repellent with strong efficacy data that shows it is just as effective as synthetic insect repellents. Therefore, Mosi-Guard® can be used abroad.
Can I use Mosi-Guard® Lemon Eucalyptus as an insect repellent for babies and children?
There has been extensive experience with the use of Mosi-Guard® as an insect repellent for babies from 6 months onward. There is less experience with very young babies. Many people choose to use Mosi-Guard® insect repellent for babies and young children because very little of the active ingredient is absorbed through the skin. As a baby’s skin can be sensitive, we always suggest that you apply a little of the repellent to a patch of skin before making a full application.
Can I use Mosi-Guard® if I am pregnant?
There have been no formal studies on pregnant women.
How long does Mosi-Guard® last as an effective insect repellent?
A study conducted at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine showed that Mosi-Guard® is effective for 11 hours against free-flying mosquitoes when applied at normal consumer rates. In trials of this nature, the subjects are inactive. Repellents may wear off more quickly if you are active or perspiring and should be reapplied more frequently.
How often should I reapply Mosi-Guard®?
Like other insect repellents, the performance of Mosi-Guard® will vary depending on your activity levels and perspiration. Reapply Mosi-Guard® every 6 to 8 hours.
Should I reapply MosiGuard® after swimming?
Yes. Although the active ingredient is not water-soluble, Mosi-Guard have not done efficacy testing to establish how much of the product washes off when swimming. Therefore, we advise that you reapply Mosi-Guard after swimming.
Can I apply Mosi-Guard with sunscreen?
Yes, but you should apply Mosi-Guard® on top of the sunscreen.
Can I use Mosi-Guard® on my face?
Despite the ‘irritating to the eyes’ warning, you can use Mosi-guard® on your face. When applying to the face, it is best to apply to your hands first and then rub on your cheeks, nose, and forehead, avoiding contact with the eyes. We suggest you shut your mouth and eyes when applying Mosi-Guard®.
What should I do if Mosi-Guard® gets into my eyes?
If you accidentally get Mosi-Guard® in your eyes, it will sting. But the eye irritation is temporary and fully reversible. Wash your hands and face with water and the irritation will pass, similar to how the sting from an onion feels and quickly passes.
What is DEET?
DEET is an old-fashioned insect repellent which was registered for public use in 1957. It is derived from coal tar and is the most well-known insect repellent. It is a synthetic chemical and a powerful solvent.
The active ingredient in Mosi-Guard® is Citriodiol®. Unlike DEET, which is a synthetic chemical active, Citriodiol® is plant-based, also known as EC Oil (H/C). Other differences relate to the problems associated with DEET. Mosi-Guard® products are all entirely DEET-free. They don’t melt plastic; they contain an active ingredient that is biodegradable and there is no known accumulation in any public waterways.
Is Mosi-Guard® as effective as DEET-based repellents?
Yes. The active ingredient in Mosi-Guard® is Citriodiol®, nature’s most effective insect repellent. The efficacy data shows that Citriodiol® works just as well as DEET, giving 6-8 hours Complete Protection Time compared to 6-10 hours Complete Protection Time from DEET-based repellents. And the Mosi-Guard® Lemon Eucalyptus Spray Extra can provide up to 10 hours of protection. So Citriodiol® in Mosi-Guard® Lemon Eucalyptus is on par with the performance of synthetic repellents but without the associated concerns.
Why do Mosi-Guard® insect repellent spray have an irritating-to-the-eyes warning label?
You will find the ‘irritating to eyes’ warning on Mosi-Guard® because Citriodiol®, the active ingredient, stings when it gets in your eyes. There is a sufficient quantity of Citriodiol® in Mosi-Guard® to have this stinging effect. Mosi-Guard® Lemon Eucalyptus Spray also contains isopropyl alcohol, which can irritate the eyes if sprayed directly on them.
