Carrier and base oils are used in aromatherapy to dilute a pure essential aromatherapy oil in order for its use since most essential oils require dilution before usage.
A carrier or base oil is a vegetable oil derived from the fatty portion of a plant, usually from seeds, kernels or nuts. Typical examples of carrier and base oils include almond oil, grapeseed oil, avocado oil and wheatgerm oil. Most base oils are odourless but some may have a faint sweet aroma.
