Is Veggi Wash better than just washing produce with water?
Plain water alone struggles to remove waxy coatings, oily pesticide residues, and stubborn surface grime. Veggi Wash's plant-derived surfactants are specifically designed to break down these contaminants so they rinse away more effectively than water alone.
Why is it important to wash fruit and vegetables before eating them?
Fruit and vegetables pass through many hands and locations — grown, harvested, packed, transported, shelved, and handled by shoppers — before they reach your kitchen. Washing removes handling residue, transport grime, and surface contaminants that a quick rinse under the tap won't fully shift.
Why do apples and cucumbers feel waxy, and is it safe?
Many fruits and vegetables — apples, cucumbers, peppers, citrus — are coated with a thin layer of food-grade wax to extend shelf life and improve shine. It's approved for use, but it also seals in whatever's underneath, including pesticide residue, which is why plain water beads off without actually cleaning it.
How do you remove wax coating from fruit naturally?
A plant-derived produce wash with mild surfactants is designed to break down wax coatings so they rinse away, unlike water alone which simply runs off the wax surface without penetrating it.
What's the best way to wash fruit and vegetables to remove chemicals?
Soaking produce briefly in a diluted, food-derived produce wash, agitating by hand, then rinsing thoroughly in clean water is more effective than a plain water rinse at removing agricultural chemical residues from skins.
Can washing fruit and vegetables reduce bacteria on the surface?
Yes. Produce accumulates surface micro-organisms during growing, handling, and transport. A proper wash-and-rinse routine helps reduce this surface bacteria, which matters most for produce eaten raw, such as salad leaves, berries, and stone fruit.
Is it safe to use a plant-based produce wash on food?
Yes, provided it's made from food-derived ingredients and used as directed — diluted, soaked briefly, then rinsed thoroughly in clean water so no residue remains on the produce.
Why are more people washing their fruit and vegetables today?
Growing awareness around food provenance, chemical exposure, and clean eating has made produce washing a mainstream habit rather than a fringe concern — it's a low-effort way to reduce unnecessary residue exposure without changing what or how you eat.
What ingredients should I look for in a safe fruit and vegetable wash?
Look for food-derived, vegetable-based ingredients rather than synthetic detergents — these offer effective surfactant cleaning power without introducing anything unsuitable for food contact.
