What is Salicylic Acid?
Salicylic acid is a beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) that promotes the skin's natural exfoliation process, which helps to improve the appearance of rough and bumpy skin. It can also aid those with psoriasis by reducing scaling and preventing flare-ups. Salicylic acid is especially beneficial for oily and acne-prone skin since it unclogs pores and keeps them clear of acne-causing debris.
Why does this formulation contain 2% Salicylic Acid?
Over-the-counter salicylic acid skincare treatments range in strength from 0.5% to 2% at maximum. Anything higher will require a prescription. The use of 2% salicylic acid in this formula ensures that the product is effective on the skin, clearing it of dead skin cell buildup, excess sebum, dirt, and bacteria. 2% is also considered the optimal amount for everyday use as it won't cause irritation or unwanted side effects.
Can I use salicylic serum on a daily basis?
You can use your salicylic acid every day, but the frequency in which you can safely use salicylic acid will depend largely on the products you choose, your skin type, current skincare goals, and the percentage of salicylic acid included in the formula.
Can I use niacinamide and salicylic acid together?
Salicylic acid and niacinamide complement each other and can provide synergistic results when used together. Apply the salicylic acid serum to clean skin, then follow that with niacinamide, and finish by moisturising and adding sun protection.
Should I moisturise after using salicylic acid?
Salicylic acid can be drying to the skin, so it's important to hydrate the skin after using the serum. Look for a moisturiser that is lightweight, non-comedogenic, and free of fragrances and other irritants.
Who should use Salicylic Acid Serum?
Although salicylic acid can benefit all skin types, it is best for oily or acne-prone skin due to its ability to reduce excess oil production and improve the appearance of clogged pores, dullness, and blackheads. It can also be used to reduce the look of psoriasis and rough, bumpy skin. If you’re unsure about whether or not salicylic acid is the right choice for your skincare routine, seek the help of a qualified dermatologist.

The DoSe serums and oils have been meticulously formulated, and in some cases reformulated by Shabir Daya MRPharmS, our co-founder who originally formulated GOW. While some formulations share the same INCI, we searched for and incorporated the optimal iterations of each, guaranteeing an enhanced quality. Not all ingredients are created equally and developments in formulations can change. It gave us the opportunity to better our offer for our customers who have previously loved GOW. We listened to the feedback from our customers regarding GOW and the bottles are now glass, which means they are also waterproof for the bathroom. We believe in constant improvement and staying at the forefront of skincare innovation.
