Can everyone use ACTIVE SERUM?
ACTIVE SERUM is a multi-tasking product of the highest quality, suited for most individuals in a wide variety of situations. It should not be used in cases of active inflammation with red, inflamed, sensitive skin. In this situation, advice from a skin care professional should be sought.
Can I still use ACTIVE SERUM if I am using a prescription product on my skin?
ACTIVE SERUM is a powerful treatment product and, in some cases, should not be used in combination with certain medications. We do offer certain protocol suggestions for specific topical prescriptions (i.e., Retin A). However, we advise consulting the prescribing physician for final recommended usage.
Is ACTIVE SERUM best for morning or evening use?
As ACTIVE SERUM promotes exfoliation, we generally recommend using ACTIVE SERUM in the evening as it amplifies the skin’s natural turnover cycle, which is considerably faster at night. ACTIVE SERUM, however, is a versatile product and can be used in the morning and/or evening, depending on the indications.
What is the scent of ACTIVE SERUM?
The scent of ACTIVE SERUM comes from the Menta extract, a natural botanical extract, used as an ingredient the product. This is the same plant extract that gives the cool, tingling, “active” sensation.
What skin types should use ACTIVE SERUM?
ACTIVE SERUM is recommended for all skin types, ages, and genders. It is great for breakouts, wrinkles and other concerns that span ages, skin-types, and genders
Why does ACTIVE SERUM tingle when applied?
The tingling sensation, for which ACTIVE SERUM is famous, comes from the Menta extract, a natural botanical extract, used as an ingredient the product. The sensation signals absorption and activity. This is the same plant extract that imparts the botanical scent to ACTIVE SERUM. Most users consider the sensation a wonderful sensory experience, although the tingling dissipates within a short time.
Why is the color different from the last time I ordered ACTIVE SERUM?
iS CLINICAL products are formulated with natural botanical ingredient sources. Natural botanical extracts may vary in color by season, harvest, field location, and other factors. It is a choice of ingredient “performance” over “color consistency.” The product can be expected to have consistent excellent quality.
Will the alcohol within some of the iS CLINICAL products be drying to the skin?
There are several types of alcohols within iS CLINICAL products. The short chain alcohol used in cosmetic products is termed denatured alcohol and its chemical name is ethanol. Although ethanol is sometimes commonly called “drinking alcohol”, our products should never be ingested. This alcohol is used in very small amounts in these products and is safe for use as directed. This ingredient evaporates quickly and completely when the product is placed on the skin. This small amount is not drying or irritating. The iS CLINICAL serums contain both alcohol and water as solvents for the active ingredients. If the denatured alcohol were not included, the amount of water used as a solvent would have to be increased. Water evaporates much more slowly than denatured alcohol and the product would remain in liquid form on the skin much longer, making it unacceptable to most users. The short chain alcohols, such as ethanol, behave very differently in cosmetic formulations than the long chain alcohols which are also non-drying. The long chain alcohols are large molecules that are used as moisturizers or humectants. They provide additional hydration to the skin and are not drying. Some other molecules, such as Vitamin B5, are alcohols and are used as ingredients for their specific functions within the skin.
