Taurine, a sulphur-containing amino acid, is produced from the conditionally essential amino acid L-cysteine by the body (1,2). It is the most abundant amino acid inside the cells in humans and is found particularly throughout the excitable tissues of the central nervous system, where it is thought to have a regulating influence.
Taurine is an amino acid found in most of the cells and tissues of the human body. It is one of the body’s most abundant free amino acids.1,2 Taurine regulates water and calcium movement across cell membranes, which helps maintain cell membrane stability.3 It also encourages bile salt production in the liver.4
- Promotes heart health and more - Studies suggest that taurine promotes cardiovascular health in a variety of ways.2 Taurine helps maintain already healthy blood pressure, heart rhythm and vascular function, and encourages healthy heart muscle contractions.2,3,5-7 Dietary taurine can also help promote normal insulin response and support already healthy blood glucose levels.5,8
- Taurine and nervous system health - Taurine is especially concentrated in the excitable tissues of the central nervous system.3 It plays an important neuroprotective role, in part through its ability to maintain water and electrolyte balance across cell membranes, inhibit oxidative processes and promote a healthy inflammatory response.2,3,9 Taurine also helps promote healthy cognitive function and retinal health.9,10
- Taurine and muscle health - Taurine supports skeletal muscle health and has been shown to support exercise performance and help maintain muscle mass and function as we age.1,3,11 Evidence indicates that taurine supports healthy aging and promotes longevity.12-14.
According to published research, taurine has been shown to 3:
- Support insulin response and healthy glucose metabolism
- Help maintain intracellular electrolytes balance (particularly calcium)
- Support eye health
- Help maintain central nervous system health
- Encourage cell membrane stability & water balance (osmoregulation)
- Promote healthy bile salt formation
- Help maintain cognitive function and neuron integrity
- Encourage heart health and function

Directions: As a food supplement, adults to take one (1) capsule one to three times daily on an empty stomach, or as recommended by a healthcare practitioner. Do not exceed the daily dose. Keep out of reach of young children.
If pregnant, or breastfeeding, or if you are taking medication, or on medical care, consult your healthcare professional prior to use. Do not exceed the daily dose. Keep out of reach of young children.
Serving Size 1 capsule. Amount Per Serving: Taurine 1000 mg. Other ingredients: vegetable cellulose (capsule), silica, vegetable stearate
Can powder-filled capsules be opened and put in a protein drink?
You can, and it is still possible that you derive benefit from the nutrients. However, the product was not designed for ingestion in this manner and some may find the taste objectionable because the product is very potent.
Is this taurine vegan?
This product does not contain any animal-derived ingredients.
Does this Taurine contain soy?
This product does not contain any soy.
I wonder if the ingredients include crustaceans such as shrimp and crab?
The taurine is obtained from isethionic acid, and is synthesized using innovative laboratory techniques to match the chemical structure found in nature, so they are “nature identical”, meaning the body cannot tell the difference. Additionally, please know that crustacean shellfish such as shrimp and crab are one of the 8 major allergens and are therefore required to be listed on the label if they are present in a product per FDA requirements.
