What is a shampoo bar?
Shampoo bars have been a bathroom trend that has really caught on in the UK in recent years. Green People's solid, waterless shampoo bars can be applied directly to the hair and massaged to create a light lather. These shampoo bars come in recyclable and plastic-free packaging, are a zero-waste hair care product, and are perfect for those who wish to reduce their impact on the planet.

What makes Green People shampoo bars different?
Natural, organic, and presented in plastic-free packaging that can be used to store the bar in between washes, Green People set the standards high when formulating its solid shampoo collection. Suitable for all skin and hair types, Green People's waterless, vegan, and cruelty-free shampoo bars are pH-balanced and include a choice of scented and unscented solid shampoos. Like all Green People’s products, these solid shampoo bars are free from soap and SLS and instead use more gentle foaming agents to create a light, soothing lather.

How long does each shampoo bar last?
Each Green People 50g natural shampoo bar will, on average, last up to 60 washes. Using a little at a time prolongs the life of your bar without leaving you low on lather.

How should I store my shampoo bar?
Green People use a special coating on the boxes in which their shampoo bars are delivered so that they can be reused to store their shampoo bars in between uses. Simply dry your natural shampoo bar after use and pop it back in its box so that it stays clean and dry.

How do I store a shampoo bar for travel?
Green People travel-friendly shampoo bars are easy to pack and carry with you. These waterless, solid shampoo bars won’t spill open en route to your destination, can easily be transported in hand luggage, and offer an average of 60 washes without taking up too much room in your suitcase. Store your shampoo bar for travel by keeping it safely in its box. Designed to store your bar after every use, the sturdy box will help to stop the bar from moving around too much in your case to reduce the risk of it becoming damaged.

How often should I use a shampoo bar?
Green People natural shampoo bars are suitable for use every day, but let your hair find its happy place. For some people, this means washing daily, while others can go longer between washes.

Do you have to use a conditioner after a shampoo bar?
No, you do not need to use a conditioner after washing your hair with a Green People shampoo bar, because they use a conditioning wax that detangles and softens the hair. For added conditioning action, Green People enriches the natural and organic shampoo bars with Vitamin E and plant oils known for their nourishing and moisturising properties, such as Macadamia Seed Oil, Coconut Oil, Avocado Oil, and Argan Oil. To help prevent frizz, Green People adds a blend of Babassu Seed Oil, Pracaxi Seed Oil, and Bisabolol to Scent Free Shampoo Bar and Citrus and Ginger Shampoo Bar, which are great choices for frizz-prone hair. This bespoke blend hydrates the hair to calm frizz while also working in synergy to smooth and strengthen cuticle scales so that hair is protected against damage and can better radiate a healthy shine.

Do shampoo bars work like soap?
Green People’s solid shampoos might look a little like soap bars, but that’s where their similarities end. All Green People shampoo bars are soap-free. They choose not to use soap in our organic shampoo bars because soap has a high, alkaline pH, which is not compatible with the slightly acidic pH of human skin and may cause irritation.

How do shampoo bars work?
The science involved in getting Green People shampoo bars to lather effectively involves a group of ingredients known as surfactants. Foaming actives and surfactants are great for use in cleansing products such as shampoo bars because, when they encounter water, they produce a lather of tight-knit bubbles that provide a washing action and lightly lift away dirt. The surfactants that Green People uses to help its solid shampoo gently foam include Sodium Coco-Sulfate and Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate. They do not use the ingredient SLS in any Green People shampoo bars or other products, as this can cause irritation in some people. Derived from coconut, the mild foaming agents have a large molecular mass that cannot penetrate the skin, so they are gentler on the scalp than SLS. This helps to make Green People shampoo bars suitable for all skin types, including those prone to sensitive skin and an itchy scalp.
